“A delightfully witty walk down literary memory lane” (Star) - with the Queen of Regency Romance herself!

Presented by: Vanilla Tree Productions

From: Ōtepoti | Dunedin

Georgette Heyer, international bestselling writer of romantic historical fiction, firmly refused interviews and public appearances during her lifetime, so Dunedin Library is thrilled and honoured to mark the 50th anniversary of Heyer’s death with this unique celebration: the actual appearance of the beloved author!

Miss Heyer will discuss her impressive craft and the way she combined impeccable research into the Regency period with a delicious sense of humour. To assist her, she will employ the talents of understandably terrified local actors as Heyer heroes and heroines, to bring to life her most charming love scenes. Moreover, Miss Heyer frankly reveals intimate secrets of her own life, from her touching romance with her particular hero, to her unbridled fury at the plagiarisms of the utterly inferior imitators of her work. No wonder even Queen Elizabeth II described her as formidable!

“The audience is entertained and enchanted ... in the presence of literary and comic supremacy. Miss MacTavish became Georgette Heyer.” - Theatreview
